Illinois River Cruiser
Macromia illinoiensis
DESCRIPTION: This Cruiser is quite easy to distinguish from most other dragonflies. It is almost entirely black, with a single yellow dorsal stripe and a prominent yellow spot at the beginning of its club. Its eyes are bright green.
BEHAVIOUR/ABUNDANCE: We see Illinois River Cruisers occasionally, most often patrolling low over a shaded river. Occasionally they can be seen in more open areas and even in swarms.
