The work of exploring the biology and culture of our landscape is never finished, and one in which it is always helpful to have the eyes and interest of the wider community.
FEP participates in iNaturalist (learn more here), and has two iNaturalist Projects where you can contribute your own observations: Life in Our Farmscape: The Biodiversity of Columbia County which focuses on observations located in Columbia County, NY, and Hawthorne Vally Biodiversity Study, which specifically focuses on observations around Hawthorne Valley. These iNaturalist Projects are a great way to contribute as a citizen scientist through an online and smartphone application platform that allows you to map and share observations of animals, plants, fungi, etc.
We also have our Progress of the Seasons Project that draws on observations of the timing of natural seasonal happenings (phenology) by people throughout New York State, past and present. If you are interested in finding out how you can contribute observations of seasonal happenings around you, you can do so directly through the USA National Phenology Network (USA NPN), or by joining the USA NPN-affiliated New York network, and Progress of the Seasons Project collaborator, The New York Phenology Project.
